Mr. Astarita graduated with Honors from New Mexico State University in 1993 with a double major in English and Philosophy. Upon graduation he entered Colorado State University to pursue a Masters Degree in Philosophy of Law when he was offered an academic scholarship to attend Quinnipiac University School of Law, where he was the President of the Brehon Law Society. During law school, Mr. Astarita interned in the Kings County District Attorney's Office, the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Connecticut State Police Department.
In 1997, Mr. Astarita received his Juris Doctor and was distinguished with an award for his service to the law school. Upon graduation he accepted a position with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, where he was assigned to the District Court Bureau, East End Bureau, Case Advisory Bureau, and Major Crime Bureau. As an Assistant District Attorney Mr. Astarita handled thousands of criminal cases throughout the Suffolk County Courts System. He prosecuted DWI cases at both the misdemeanor and felony levels, as well as being the lead prosecutor on such violent crimes as rape, robbery, burglary, and attempted homicide.
As a private defense attorney, Mr. Astarita, again, has handled thousands of cases from simple traffic violations up to violent felonies. By specializing in defending DWI cases, Mr. Astarita has brought as many if not more cases to trial then any other attorney in Suffolk County. As a result of obtaining such a high volume of trial verdicts, Mr. Astarita is able to regularly obtain favorable settlements for the majority of his cases. In addition to his DWI-defense trials, Mr. Astarita has won trial verdicts in robbery, assault, criminal contempt, burglary, drug possession, and harassment cases as well.
Mr. Astarita is permitted to practice law in the State Courts of New York as well as the United States Federal Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts.
